Lifeless TV show pilot

This past April, I spent 2 weeks working on a TV show pilot in downtown Salt Lake City. The show is called "Lifeless", and I think it is getting post production audio right now, so its almost ready to pitch to networks or whoever...

I was the 2nd AC, which stands for 2nd Assistant Camera. We used a small HD camera that doesn't record to tape, but to a little drive. Our 1st AC had to leave the shoot after just a few days because his sister was in a car accident, so I was also the 1st AC for much of the shoot.

Basically, I was really busy and had a blast. It was a great crew and the talent were really, well, talented. If all goes well, we'll be shooting a whole season in the Salt Lake area next year.

I threw a little bit of lyrics to music and turned my friend Phillip's band loose on it. The end result is a pretty decent TV theme song. Its a little too upbeat for the show, but quite a catchy song.

What a fun time.
Which one do you like best?  I personally like the James Bond feel of Phillip's arrangement.

Torrential Waterfall!

While in Puerto Rico this summer, I got to visit the rainforest. This waterfall near the highest peak in Puerto Rico was brown and angry with all the rain! It was all over the road! Talk about a cool experience.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir

We interviewed Craig Jessop a few days ago, director for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. After the interview, I gave him a copy of my women's chorus arrangment of "Far Away on Judea's Plains". He was very gracious. What a remarkable guy.

Here is the first few pages of another hymn arrangement I did of "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go".

Recently I got a little choir together to sing yet another arrangement, "Praise to the Man", at a devotional for the Church of Jesus Christ audiovisual department in a few weeks.

Even though music is not my profession, I spend a lot of time working on it. Thanks goodness for hobbies. I love it.

Great Words

I love off-road bocce ball. And I love this poem by Wordsworth too...

Character Of The Happy Warrior
William Wordsworth

Who is the happy Warrior? Who is he
That every man in arms should wish to be?
—It is the generous Spirit, who, when brought
Among the tasks of real life, hath wrought
Upon the plan that pleased his boyish thought:
Whose high endeavours are an inward light
That makes the path before him always bright;
Who, with a natural instinct to discern
What knowledge can perform, is diligent to learn;
Abides by this resolve, and stops not there,
But makes his moral being his prime care;
Who, doomed to go in company with Pain,
And Fear, and Bloodshed, miserable train!
Turns his necessity to glorious gain;
In face of these doth exercise a power
Which is our human nature’s highest dower:
Controls them and subdues, transmutes, bereaves
Of their bad influence, and their good receives:
By objects, which might force the soul to abate
Her feeling, rendered more compassionate;
Is placable—because occasions rise
So often that demand such sacrifice;
More skilful in self-knowledge, even more pure,
As tempted more; more able to endure,
As more exposed to suffering and distress;
Thence, also, more alive to tenderness.
—’Tis he whose law is reason; who depends
Upon that law as on the best of friends;
Whence, in a state where men are tempted still
To evil for a guard against worse ill,
And what in quality or act is best
Doth seldom on a right foundation rest,
He labours good on good to fix, and owes
To virtue every triumph that he knows:
—Who, if he rise to station of command,
Rises by open means; and there will stand
On honourable terms, or else retire,
And in himself possess his own desire;
Who comprehends his trust, and to the same
Keeps faithful with a singleness of aim;
And therefore does not stoop, nor lie in wait
For wealth, or honours, or for worldly state;
Whom they must follow; on whose head must fall,
Like showers of manna, if they come at all:
Whose powers shed round him in the common strife,
Or mild concerns of ordinary life,
A constant influence, a peculiar grace;
But who, if he be called upon to face
Some awful moment to which Heaven has joined
Great issues, good or bad for human kind,
Is happy as a Lover; and attired
With sudden brightness, like a Man inspired;
And, through the heat of conflict, keeps the law
In calmness made, and sees what he foresaw;
Or if an unexpected call succeed,
Come when it will, is equal to the need:
—He who, though thus endued as with a sense
And faculty for storm and turbulence,
Is yet a Soul whose master-bias leans
To homefelt pleasures and to gentle scenes;
Sweet images! which, wheresoe’er he be,
Are at his heart; and such fidelity
It is his darling passion to approve;
More brave for this, that he hath much to love:—
’Tis, finally, the Man, who, lifted high,
Conspicuous object in a Nation’s eye,
Or left unthought-of in obscurity,—
Who, with a toward or untoward lot,
Prosperous or adverse, to his wish or not—
Plays, in the many games of life, that one
Where what he most doth value must be won:
Whom neither shape or danger can dismay,
Nor thought of tender happiness betray;
Who, not content that former worth stand fast,
Looks forward, persevering to the last,
From well to better, daily self-surpast:
Who, whether praise of him must walk the earth
For ever, and to noble deeds give birth,
Or he must fall, to sleep without his fame,
And leave a dead unprofitable name—
Finds comfort in himself and in his cause;
And, while the mortal mist is gathering, draws
His breath in confidence of Heaven’s applause:
This is the happy Warrior; this is he
That every man in arms should wish to be.

The rest of my Atlanta tourist photos

We drank way too much Coca Cola, flavors from almost every continent, at the World of Coke.

I liked the African and Asian flavors the most. The African soda was fruitier and not carbonated. The Asian flavors were more subdued.

Powerpuff girls?

CNN headquarters. Very cool building.

We made my sister-in-law hold all of our drinks while I got a photos in front of Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles. I had catfish, cornbread, and grits. Mmmmm mmmmm good.

Multidentity

Talk about a different sort of card game! If you can pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time, then you'll love playing Multidentity. There are 108 charade cards, and your head, hands, and feet act out different charades at the same time. You can see what the cards look like here, but imagine acting out a clumsy waiter with swimmer arms and a tyrannosaurus head!

I'm toying with the idea of making a few videos to advertise for the game on Youtube. There, I'll refer people to my ebay account to order copies of the game.

Atlanta Amphibial Park

What we really liked most about the Botanical Gardens in Atlanta were the cool frogs. I think we took more pictures of frogs than we did of plants. I think they should call it the Atlanta Amphibial Park.

Atlanta Botanical Gardens

I recently returned from a trip to Atlanta. On my first day there, I toured the Atlanta Botanical Gardens with my brother, Michael. Talk about a lot of cool plants!

My favorite plants were the ones with broad leaves with bold patterns. (Of course I don't remember their names. I've never been great at remembering names.)

This is ex-siding!

Here is the before and "after" for my house's new siding. Actually, I think the real siding will look better than my drawing.

You can see that the side of the house is shaped really weird, and the brown wood siding has got to go. It took a little while to figure out a design that would make the side of the house look quasi-normal. Hopefully it doesn't look too cool for the rest of the neighborhood, right? It will cost about $6000 to put new siding on the house, but I think it will be easier to sell with new siding.

What do you think?

Welcome

It seems my younger brothers have started blogs, so I figured it is high time I joined the club. Afterall, my life is interesting enough.

I thought about calling my blog "backblog", but I'm sure that blog name is already taken.

I promise to include a lot more pictures, audio, and maybe even video links in the future. Try to keep is interesting, right?

Todays piece of interest comes from an older single adult bishop in Arizona. Click on the following link to see a clear-cut look at what single-adult life in the LDS Church is like.

(If you wondered, I classify myself as a 3, but sometimes I visit stage 1 and 2.)

I hope you are all having a great summer.
